Since the new website layout from Naturescapes.NET the editors no longer announce a image of the week per gallery but choose a Editors Pick.
I am happy to see that my personal favorite from the last photo session, trees in winter, is chosen by editors.
Some feedback so far:

Trees in the winter
by Kristel Schneider
” Snow, chaos and trees”
Comparing earlier winters I experienced in the Auvergne, I can say this year was mild so far. Last year I bought my own set of snow rackets but because of the lack of snow in my area I decided yesterday to look for some white powder higher up in the mountains.
Readers who visit this blog more often know how much I love trees and one of the things I always wanted to do was walking on snow rackets in the forest. So together with photographer Cyril Coudert (partner from Massifs Centraux) I planned a photo day in the Sancy area (Auvergne, France).
Destination: Vallée de la Fontaine Salée | Chastreix-Sancy (1299m), the weather forecast was not that great but in the mountains it can change very fast so we gave it a try. Knowing that I had to walk for the first time on these snow rackets I decided to empty my camera bag. Camera body and only two lenses, the canon 24-105 and the canon 300 mm and my lunchbox + tripod. Already missing my my 70-200mm lens, my favorite ‘brick’ .
After walking for a while I was so happy with my earlier decision (LOL).
The tree branches had just enough snow to give it that little extra you like to see in your images. The view leaves gave a little touch of color in the brown/grey scenery.
The challenge was to find a nice composition amongst the chaos.
Hopefully next month the snow will return so that I can experiment some more in the winter forest. For more images click here

The Auvergne has two regional natural parks (PNR): The Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Natural Park and The Livradois-Forez Regional Natural Park.
In the course of conducting workshops, I have observed that – of those two – PNR Livradois -Forez (the subject of my photo assignment) is the least well-known by the public. This is, for me, another reason to be thrilled with this assignment, besides knowing that there is nothing more rewarding than to promote one’s own living area. I also think it is great that – via my photography work – the public’s awareness of a great nature location will increase.
Across the year’s four seasons, I will work in different areas of the park, and in close contact with the park’s main Information Center, several local Tourism Boards and local communities.
The themes for photographic reportage will be:
– sports activities (snow-racketing, hiking, fishing, etc.)
– heritage (Castles, village scenes, remains of historical places etc.)
– local festivals
– traditional gastronomy
– landscapes
Livradois-Forez Regional Natural Park (French: Le Parc naturel régional Livradois-Forez) is a protected area of woodlands and traditional farmland in the Auvergne and Rhône-Alpes regions of central France. Spanning the departments of Puy-de-Dôme, Haute-Loire, and Loire, the park covers a total area of 297,000 hectares (730,000 acres). (map /map) Within its borders, the park contains more than 150 small communes. The area was officially designated as a regional natural park in 1986. (Text Wikipedia)
The park’s main information center is located in Saint-Gervais-sous-Meymont.

What to expect to see during this trip:
Lots of different scenery that will take your breath away. The island of Newfoundland is outlined with a rugged coastline of steep cliffs and rocky beaches. On top of this you will find numerous bays and with small communities called “out-ports” and lots of different restored old lighthouses. Newfoundland is one of the best places to see nature in an untouched way, with dramatic coastlines and ancient rock formations.
Although the main focus will be Landscape Photography people who like wildlife can expect to spot Whales and sea-birds from the shore or during the whale-watching boat tour. The icing on the cake will be the chance to view and photograph Icebergs.
Photography topics:
“Steep cliffs and rocky beaches, dramatic coastlines and ancient rock formations, old lighthouses, rugged coastlines, Icebergs, old fishing communities,
whales, colony of Northern Gannets, puffins and much more”.
